Homeshare – Maidstone, Kent

We have a lovely new opportunity in Maidstone, Kent for someone to live affordably and comfortably in this area of the Garden of England in return for providing some companionship and a reassuring overnight presence to a friendly and engaging older lady who recently turned 90.

Homeshare Location:

Situated in a village just 2 miles from Maidstone. There is a bus stop outside the house with a regular service to Maidstone. Local shops are a 10-minute walk away.

Accommodation on Offer:

Large and bright double bedroom with bathroom in a gorgeous big house with a large garden. The bedroom is furnished with a wardrobe, chest of drawers, table and chair. Shared use of the kitchen and living rooms. For study or working from home, separate space is available in the dining room or conservatory.  The house has good WiFi. A gardener and cleaner come on a regular basis.

What the Opportunity Involves:

In return for the low-cost accommodation (£199 pm), we are looking to match our lovely homeowner with a friendly and cheerful female Sharer (pref aged 40+) who is happy to provide some companionship and an overnight reassuring presence to our highly articulate Homeowner.

She recently turned 90; a teacher for many years, she was also a keen amateur actress and played in local theatre.  Her hobbies include painting, ballroom dancing, antiques and reading. She is very bright, curious and chatty and interested in people; she is a good listener and has a great sense of humour. She enjoys watching a good film, antiques programmes, comedies, and history documentaries.

Our Homeowner is familiar with sharing her home with another, younger person and is looking for the companionship and friendship that sharing can bring. She can feel quite isolated in her home and has few friends of her own mental agility and energy.  She has a good and close relationship with both her son and her daughter and is in regular contact with them.

The ideal Sharer will be working mainly from home or studying and would be happy to share time together in the evenings, perhaps cooking and sharing a meal, or chatting and watching TV together.  A car driver (and owner) would be a bonus, although not essential and parking is available. A pet would also be potentially welcome in the property.

Cost: £199 per month

This is a monthly facilitation fee for our matching and ongoing monitoring service. You do NOT pay any rent to the Homeowner. Bills are included, although you may be asked to make a modest contribution to the Homeowner towards the energy bills, and council tax.
